Prof. Taye B. Demissie
Biography
Prof. Demissie is a computational and physical chemist. After his PhD studies, financed by EU regional development fund, he spent 4 years as a postdoctoral researcher in Norway (UiT), funded by the Norwegian Research Council. He was also a postdoctoral researcher in the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) of the Czech Academy of Sciences for one year, funded by the EU. Since 2021, Prof. Demissie has been serving as the UB STEM committee’s chair. As a PI and co-PI, he is now overseeing two interdisciplinary projects that are internally sponsored by UB (Phytochemical Investigation of Kniphofia Species for Antimalarial Compounds, and Phytochemical investigation of selected medicinal plants used traditionally to treat diabetes in parts of Botswana). Along with other African HEIs, Prof Demissie is also a part of the FAST4Future project, which is funded by the European Commission under the ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE call and totals 798,369 euros. Very recently, together with his team, received ~75,000 euros to support the ongoing phytochemical investigation of medicinal plants in Botswana from the Ministry of Communication, Knowledge and Technology. He has supervised several BSc, MSc and PhD students. Prof Demissie has so far published more than 100 articles in high-impact factor journals.
